A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I went to Dalkey for me to see the place. Although in theory, I was supposed to be taking pictures of people climbing, I did take a couple of non-climbing photographs of which this was my favourite.

Dublin has a lot of sailing clubs. Off the head, I can think of about 4 within easy reach of where I live, and I know there’s another bunch on the other side of the city. These maybe boats out from Dun Laoghaire, or possibly Dalkey itself. I don’t know if there’s a sailing club in Dalkey, although I would be amazed if there was not.

I absolutely adore this photograph. We had mixed weather – shortly after this was taken, we were running from the rain, so that possibly gave me the shades I was looking for out of this. I shot this with a cheap little Sigma 70-300 which basically is the lens that allowed me to build a reputation as a kitesurfing photographer. It’s far from being a perfect lens but I still love it because it’s given me some great shots over the years that I have it.
