Yes, well this is from one of the trips to the Botanic Garden to effectively utilise the macro lens that was bought to create fantastic shell photographs. It hasn’t quite worked out that way.

I’ve other plans for the lens though and will be looking for volunteers willing to model their eyes. I did some of that around six months ago, must get back to it.

I’ve other plans on the go as well – I have a few small notebooks which are going to get pressed into use for creating these things. But until the shots are done…I may not discuss them

Earlier today I posted a link to some wedding photography on the Canon photography forums which I liked a lot. I’ve been thinking some more about it. I love the idea of doing wedding photographs that reflect the kind of person you are rather than the typical formal shots. The problem for me – given that I specialise in what I specialise in – is that you can’t rely on the weather to give you a great day for your wedding shots.

I’m tempted, however, to see how much it would cost to get a wedding/white/formal dress and get a couple of kitesurfers to model for me and give it a shot…

Today was one of those days where I just had to get the camera out and do something. Anything. The weather was “mixed” at best, and really, lent itself to doing the ironing rather than going to the beach. I wound up with the flowers in the Botanic Garden, armed with the 100mm macro lens and a tripod which I never used anyway.

This might be my favourite shot from the afternoon; I don’t know for sure. I’m into the shallow depth of field at the moment but am totally lacking inspiration on what I want to photograph either. The flowers are easy but, it has to be said, difficult to do anything much different with them. I spent the afternoon looking for cooperative wasps and bees but they kept on moving. The paper thin 2.8 gave me no room for manoeuvre either but this was one of the few that came out some way reasonably.

I’ve a couple of projects outstanding, one for the beach involving a long, long timelapse and nightmares about how I will put it together, another series of self portraits to go with the set already in place. I feel better about them now because my skin is probably clearer than it has been for a few months (don’t ask me why).

This is from Myrtleville around lunchtime. In truth I should have gone down there last night night when the tide was high.

and this is the same pile of rocks.

I don’t know if it was just me, or if it’s the usual excuse – “the light was grim” or what…but everything, even the flowers seemed to be a bit flat.

From Myrtleville I somehow wound up near Ringaskiddy on a beach that looked into Cork Harbour.

and took pictures of shells.

This, however, is my favourite find all day long. Another fish corpse.

somewhat completely corpsed out.

One of the bad things about having lost a complete site is that you’ve also lost a load of stuff you’d written about before. I don’t just do kitesurfers, and I don’t just do pinky coloured slow exposures. I do some macro as well.

At some stage earlier during the year I went to the Botanic Gardens. I may have gone twice, actually but from the more recent trip, I got some interesting things because there were more flowers. I think nearly all of these were shot with a 100mm macro 2.8. I love that lens. I didn’t expect to but such is life.

This is one of my favourites:

I’m not very good with actual flora info so I have no idea what most of these are.

although these are probably bluebells.

and I loved the depth of field here.

and this was just pure self indulgence. When I am bored I will post the lady bird brothel from the macro series.
